Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about Oblivyx Studios setups, installation, and troubleshooting.
Installation & Setup
What Minecraft version do I need?
All Oblivyx Studios setups require Spigot or Paper 26.2. We recommend using Paper for the best performance and compatibility. Players can join using ViaVersion/ViaBackwards if you want to support older client versions.
# Check your server version
/version
# Recommended: Paper 26.2
# Download from: https://papermc.io/downloads
Do I need to buy any external plugins?
For Coastal setups and Viking Survival/Towny — no! Citizens and TAB functionality are handled by our custom built-in plugin. Everything you need is included in the setup package.
For other Viking setups (Earth, OneBlock, Lifesteal, etc.), check the specific installation page for any required dependencies.
All setups support ViaVersion and ViaBackwards as optional plugins for multi-version player support.
How do I install the setup on my server?
Installation is simple — just follow these steps:
- Download the setup package from your purchase
- Extract the ZIP file on your computer
- Upload all the extracted files into your server's root directory (where
server.jaris located) - Start your server — that's it!
For detailed step-by-step instructions, visit the installation guide for your specific setup in the sidebar.
Can I use this on a hosting panel like Pterodactyl or Multicraft?
Yes! Oblivyx Studios setups work with any Minecraft server hosting panel, including:
- Pterodactyl / Pelican — Upload via the file manager or SFTP
- Multicraft — Upload via the built-in file manager or FTP
- Custom VPS / Dedicated — Upload via SFTP (FileZilla, WinSCP, etc.)
- Shared hosting (Apex, PebbleHost, etc.) — Use their file manager or SFTP
Just make sure you upload the files to the correct server directory and that your server has enough RAM allocated (minimum 6GB recommended).
Configuration & Customization
How do I rebrand the setup with my server name?
Every installation guide includes a Rebranding step that lists all the files you need to update. The key files are:
- Essentials MOTD —
/plugins/Essentials/motd.txt(server name, Discord, store URL) - dMOTD Config —
/plugins/dMOTD/config.yml(server list name) - Server Icon —
/plugins/dMOTD/server-icon.png(64×64px icon) - TAB Config —
/plugins/TAB/config.yml(tab list header/footer) - Holograms & Menus — Various files in
/plugins/DecentHolograms/and/plugins/DeluxeMenus/
Check the Rebranding section in your specific setup's installation guide for the complete list.
Can I add or remove plugins from the setup?
Yes! You're free to customize the plugin lineup. However, keep these tips in mind:
- Some plugins depend on each other — check for errors in the console if you remove one
- If you remove a plugin that's referenced in menus or holograms, update those configs too
- Adding new plugins is usually safe, but watch for conflicts with existing features
- Always back up your server before making major plugin changes
How do I change the server MOTD and tab list?
The server MOTD (what players see in the server list) and tab list are controlled by separate plugins:
- Server List MOTD: Edit
/plugins/dMOTD/config.ymland replace the server name and description - Tab List: Edit
/plugins/TAB/config.ymlto change the header, footer, and formatting - Join Message: Edit
/plugins/Essentials/motd.txtfor the message shown when a player connects
After editing, use /dmotd reload and /tab reload to apply changes without restarting.
Is a resource pack required?
No. None of the Oblivyx Studios setups require a custom resource pack. Everything works with the vanilla Minecraft textures out of the box.
You're welcome to add your own resource pack if you want custom textures or sounds, but it's completely optional.
Troubleshooting
Plugins aren't loading or show errors on startup
Plugin errors on startup are usually caused by one of these issues:
- Wrong server version: Make sure you're running Spigot/Paper 26.2
- Incomplete upload: Re-upload the setup files and make sure no files were skipped
- Missing dependencies: Check the console log for "missing dependency" messages
- Corrupted JAR files: Re-download the setup and re-upload the plugin JARs
# Check which plugins loaded successfully
/plugins
# Check server version
/version
# Look for errors in console
# Check: /logs/latest.log
The setup looks broken or features are missing
If the server starts but things don't look right, try these fixes:
- Check all files were uploaded: Make sure you extracted and uploaded the entire setup package, not just the plugins folder
- Use a fresh server: We recommend installing on a clean server for the best experience
- Check the console: Look at
/logs/latest.logfor any error messages - Restart the server: Some plugins need a full restart (not just
/reload) to initialize properly
/reload on a production server! Always do a full restart for plugin changes.
How do I update to a newer version of the setup?
To update your setup to a newer version:
- Back up your entire server (especially player data, worlds, and any custom configs)
- Download the latest version from your purchase page
- Stop the server completely
- Replace the setup files with the new ones (keep your custom rebranding changes)
- Start the server and verify everything works
My server is lagging after installing the setup
Performance issues can usually be resolved by:
- Allocating more RAM: We recommend at least 6GB, with 8GB+ for 20+ players
- Using Paper: Paper has significant performance improvements over Spigot
- Pre-generating chunks: Use a chunk pre-generation plugin to avoid lag from terrain generation
- Checking timings: Use
/timings onthen/timings reportto identify bottlenecks - Optimize startup flags: Use Aikar's recommended JVM flags for Minecraft servers
# Check server performance
/tps
/timings on
# Wait a few minutes, then:
/timings report
